Before diving into my favorite fishing knowledge related to the bayous, I think it’s important that we understand our actions do have consequences. If we are not careful or diligent about keeping the bayous safe, than they shouldn’t be fished. That is a fact. If we can’t do one of the most simple things, than we don’t deserve to be trusted with the wildlife in the area. There are so many creatures around the bayou that are affected by pollution and human stupidity. If we continue to destroy the bayou by littering and doing other nefarious activities, then we just may end up destroying the entire ecosystem. We wouldn’t just be affecting our fishing, we would be killing herons and other creatures like alligator snapping turtles that are important to our waterways. To make sure we don’t end up in this situation you should do your part. Whenever you see trash lying around don’t be afraid to pick it up. One piece at a time cleans up our mess. If we all make sure to put our rods up for just a minute to go and throw away one piece of trash, I think it’s worth it. Another thing you should always do is kill invasive species. Two notable examples of invasive species are Asian grass carp and plecos (armored catfish). Now if i’m being completely honest, I don’t really kill Asian grass carp as much as I should. I know they are invasive and destroy the ecosystem but, a lot of the times I don’t like going through the whole hassle of killing them if i’m not really gonna end up using them for anything. Plecos on the other hand, they need to die. These fish make carp look puny on the grand scale. PLECOS DESTROY EVERYTHING!! If you catch a pleco in a cast net or you end up snagging it, kill it on sight. Every dead pleco aids the cause.

Thank you for reading this rant about conservation and preservation of our bayous. I know it’s a boring topic, but it is absolutely necessary if we want to be fishing the best waters possible. Thank you guys so much and have an amazing rest of your day,
-Lucas.
